MY RECOMMENDED CALL FOR ENTRY

Entering photography contests  is a very easy way of exposing your work to juror’s:  gallery owners, curators and other photographers around the world.  Today there are so many opportunities to do this and you can spend a lot of money chasing them.   If you are new to this, just getting a piece into a show can be very exciting and rewarding and perhaps that’s the very first step.  In that case, go for it.  However down the road I recommend you begin to choose carefully…here are a few things to consider:

1.  Who are the jurors?

2.  Does my work fit into what they are looking for?

3.  Is it expensive to enter and will it require shipping framed or unframed prints?

4.  Does it have award money or exhibits in significant galleries or museums?

5.  Who will see the work?  Does the gallery have “collectors” ?

As in the two previous editions, WPGA invites women photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought. Traditional, contemporary, avant-garde, creative and experimental works that include old and new processes, mixed techniques, and challenging personal, emotional or political statements will be welcome. As Mary Ellen wrote in her statement after jurying the first edition of this award, we will like to see, in a time when we’re inundated with imagery and media that is commercially-driven, images representing purity in photography that is inspiring and hopeful.
