HOW TO BE FREE IN THE CREATIVE PROCESS

Steal Art that moves you. Internalize it.  Memorize the feeling it gives you and hold onto that.   Don’t use left brain judgement.  Stay open to the feeling  and when it stops, take a break.  When you tap into  the original inspiration, begin again.

WHAT is driving you to create art?

What primarily drives me to create art is the desire to express my connection to source, to spirit, to each other and to everything around me. I’ve always felt that an image speaks louder than words which is what initially inspired me to create art.

The image begins with an idea or an emotion I’ve picked up from  seeing  artwork or simply colors and shapes.  I begin with that brief inspiration, but always let go of the “how”.  I just go with the flow and let the image show up.  It’s never what I think it’s going to be.  Some elements in the image seem separate and yet somehow, with the use of color or shapes, it connects.  Sometimes it can appear more literal with lines and arms reaching out.  I may not achieve that connection in some of the images, however I do believe even those eventually lead me to that place in future images.

In the image below, I took a very complex image that was overworked.  I seem to be doing that a lot lately.  I decided to cover it with a solid background image and, using an eraser brush in Procreate, created spaces that revealed random parts behind it.  I call this excavation and share this in my classes.  This one had a few more unique steps I’ll share in future classes.  This process created many connections that I could never have predicted.  I printed it and decided to continue working it.
