The Ambivalence of the Peephole

“What I need is perspective. The illusion of depth, created by a frame, the arrangement of shapes on a flat surface. Perspective is necessary. Otherwise there are only two dimensions.” Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale

When you happen upon a Peephole, you may think you’ve perceived a truth, an unfolding or perhaps a secret or a lie. Suddenly the seemingly insignificant bend in the arm, the reach of the hand unveiling a hidden and powerful sensitivity or a certain deeply held emotion, might reveal a raw naked beauty. Perhaps if we remove what might present as camouflage we’ll see that there is no separate self.
